Grantek sponsors the Mechatronics Capstone Design Symposium at University of Waterloo
March 27, 2014
Waterloo, ON – On March 14th, Grantek sponsored the 6th annual Mechatronics Capstone Design Symposium. The Mechatronics Design Symposium is an opportunity for final year engineering students to present their Capstone Design projects, which are the culmination of the students’ entire engineering education.
Waterloo Engineering alumni Bryon Hayes and David Craig from Grantek’s systems engineering group judged the design component of the final year students’ projects.
Some of this year’s projects include:
The Cyculus – A virtual reality indoor biking machine that gives you the experience of mountain biking indoors using the Oculus headset.
Autonomous Underwater Tracking System – An underwater drone that has the ability to track a diver, monitor and warn them about potential dangers.
Pulse Punch Bag – An interactive punching bag that helps people learn the basics of martial arts. The design incorporates the smart punching bag, a smartphone app and an online social network.
After much deliberation Bryon and David presented the Best Design Award to the “Pulse Punch Bag” team for their creative and unique design. Both of them further noted how all the amazing projects reminded them of their own capstone projects.
At Grantek we are proud to support young engineers, and look forward to next year’s talented groups! For job opportunities at Grantek visit our careers page.
